Celebrate Earth Day with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Recycling Center!  We’ll cover:

  • The dozens of additional materials collected for recycling in Emmet County ONLY at the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center
  • What we do with the materials you recycle everyday
  • What your recyclables are made into and where
  • All your recycling questions!

REGISTRATION REQUIRED (This tour is limited to 25 participants)

For safety reasons, please no children under 6 years of age.
All minors must be under direct supervision of a parent or authorized adult.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS:

Layer up as necessary to be outdoors for roughly an hour.

PARKING:

Please carpool: it’s better for the Earth and parking at the Drop-off Center is limited.

Join an Environmental Geology class from North Central Michigan College for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Recycling Center!  We’ll cover:

  • How various materials are derived from nature and their impact from extraction, through use, to recycling or disposal
  • The dozens of additional materials collected for recycling in Emmet County ONLY at the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center
  • What we do with the materials you recycle everyday
  • What your recyclables are made into and where
  • All your recycling questions!

Join an Environmental Policy class from North Central Michigan College for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Recycling Center! (Note: because of the length of the class period this is an unusually short tour of the facility.) We’ll cover:

  • The various policies that regulate and support Emmet County’s waste and recycling systems
  • The dozens of additional materials collected for recycling in Emmet County ONLY at the Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center
  • What we do with the materials you recycle everyday
  • What your recyclables are made into and where
  • All your recycling questions!

It feels great to free up storage space while cleaning and “greening” your home: drop off your unwanted oil-based paints, cleaners, automotive fluids, yard & garden chemicals, and much more.  It also makes your home safer for you and responders, in case of an emergency.

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY: to prevent traffic jams (and long waits in line!) this event is by appointment. Call 231-348-0640 to make an appointment.

Materials from Emmet County households are accepted free of charge; funding comes from Solid Waste Transfer Station revenues (what is paid to dump garbage). Residents of other counties and qualifying businesses may use the service, but we must charge $1 per pound to cover our costs.

Look for our blue lidded recycling bins in Harbor Springs to recycle bottles, cans and cups

Look for our trucks in the Harbor Springs, Petoskey and Alanson parades.
